PBS Addresses "Tupac Shakur's Alive" News Report

(SOHH.COM)
PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) officials have come forward to address a published news report on their website claiming the late rapper Tupac Shakur is actually alive and well in New Zealand.

According to PBS, online hackers broke into its system and created a fabricated Pac story.

PBS officials say hackers have cracked the network's website, posting a phony story claiming dead rapper Tupac Shakur was alive in New Zealand, and a group that claimed responsibility for the hacking complained about a recent "Frontline" investigative news program on WikiLeaks. PBS confirmed early Monday morning on its official Twitter account that the website had been hacked. The phony story had been taken down as of Monday morning. It had been posted on the site of the "PBS NewsHour" program, which is produced by WETA-TV in Arlington, Va. (Times Union)
Additional reporting suggests the hacker was part of a much larger conspiracy.

Boing Boing reports that this sadly erroneous report was the work of the hacking group LulzSec. Members of this group reportedly aren't terribly happy about a PBS Frontline show called WikiSecrets, which tended not to show WikiLeaks in an entirely favorable light. LulzSec doesn't seem to have attacked Frontline's site, but thousands of PBS passwords have reportedly been published online. Moreover, Wired reports that LulzSec left something of an image-based calling card that read: "All your base are belong to Lulzsec." The page was reportedly titled: "FREE BRADLEY MANNING. F*** FRONTLINE!" (CNet News)
PBS' "Frontline" executive producer David Fanning shared his reaction to the unexpected hack.

"From our point of view, we just see it as a disappointing and irresponsible act, especially since we have been very open to publishing criticism of the film ... and the film included other points of view," Fanning said. "This kind of action is irresponsible and chilling." (Statement)
Last December, fake footage of rap mogul Suge Knight being arrested for the death of Pac emerged online.

While Twitter heated up with news of Suge Knight's arrest and his connection with the murder of Tupac, some started to break down the "news" video to discover that it was, in fact, a hoax. At first glance, the news footage showing Suge Knight arrested 2010 pointed to the fact that Suge Knight killed Tupac as the reason for his arrest. The fake video is actually spliced together news footage that makes it appear that Suge Knight was arrested for killing Tupac. (Babble News)

R.I.P. Wrestling Icon 'Macho Man' Randy Savage

(PopEater.com)
Wrestling legend, snack pitchman and actor "Macho Man" Randy Savage died Friday in Tampa Bay, Florida after losing control of his car while suffering a heart attack, his brother tells TMZ. Lanny Poffo says his brother was behind the wheel around 10 AM when the accident occurred. He was 58.

The Florida Highway Patrol later told the website that Savage and his wife, Lynn, were driving their Jeep Wrangler when the car veered across a concrete median, rushed through oncoming traffic and "collided head-on with a tree."

Savage was taken to Largo Medical Center where he died, and Lynn was rushed to a different hospital, but survived with minor injuries. According to officials, both were wearing their seat belts and alcohol is not suspected. An investigation is underway.

The couple had just celebrated their 1-year anniversary.

His former colleagues and admirers in the wrestling business have already begun pouring out their grief, including tag team partner Hulk Hogan who took to Twitter to reveal he had just begun talking to his old friend.

"I'm completely devastated, after over 10 years of not talking with Randy, we've finally started to talk and communicate," Hogan said. "I just pray that Randy's happy and in a better place and we miss him."

Dwayne Johnson, or The Rock, posted on Twitter: "You were one of my childhood inspirations and heros. Strength, love and prayers to the Savage/Poffo family."

The man known to millions of fans for his flashy outfits, his "Oooooo Yeaahhhh" catchphrase and his feuds with countless rivals, Savage broke into wrestling in the early 1970s while at the same time playing minor league baseball under his born name Randall Poffo. After injuring his throwing arm he put the focus on pro wrestling.

He picked the name 'Randy Savage' because a booker said his nickname at the time -- 'The Spider Friend' -- didn't suit since he "wrestled like a savage." In 1985 he signed up with Vince McMahaon's World Wrestling Federation and quickly became one of the league's more popular figures. His match with Ricky Steamboat in 1987's WrestleMania III is still considered one of the greatest ever.

Savage left the WWF for the World Championship Wrestling in 1994.

Savage also tried his hand in other forms of entertainment throughout the years, most notably as the celebrity spokesman for Slim Jim beef snacks dating back to the mid-1990s. "Snap into a Slim Jim, oooooh yeah!"

His acting career included the role of wrestler Bonesaw McGraw in the 2002's 'Spider-Man' and most recently he was the voices of "the thug" in Disney's 2008 animated film, 'Bolt.' Savage also showed up in several TV shows as himself, in 'Mad About You,' 'Baywatch' and 'The Jeff Foxworthy Show.'

“Women In Hip Hop” Profile: Roxanne Shanté

(AOL Music) Roxanne Shanté (born Lolita Gooden) was walking outside a New York housing project called Queensbridge when she heard three men talking about how the trio U.T.F.O. had canceled their appearance at a show they were promoting. Gooden offered to make a rap record that would get back at U.T.F.O., who’d previously recorded “Roxanne, Roxanne,” a song about a woman too stuck up to notice them. The three — Tyrone Williams, disc jockey Mister Magic, and producer Marley Marl — took her up on the idea, with Marl producing “Roxanne’s Revenge.” The song was confrontational, sneering, boastful, and even borderline obscene, and it spawned 102 additional answer records. Eventually U.T.F.O. threatened to sue Shanté for using their B-side as the musical foundation. She settled with them and recut the song with a different, though related, track. Shanté‘s fortunes were thin shortly after the heyday of “Roxanne, Roxanne,” though she did share a number one R&B and a Top Ten pop hit with Rick James in 1986, “Loosey’s Rap.”

Shanté retired when she was 25 to focus her attention on obtaining a higher education. She went on to receive a Ph.D. in psychology, eventually running her own practice and building a family in New York. She stayed involved with the entertainment industry by being a mentor to young, female rappers and taking part in a series of Sprite commercials that highlighted freestyling hip-hop artists. ~ Ron Wynn, Rovi

Karyn Parsons Talks 'Fresh Prince' Reunion for Non-Profit Org Sweet Blackberry

Karyn Parsons couldn't be more different from her nasty 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' alter-ego Hilary Banks. A generous, conversational mother mostly distanced from acting for the last decade, Parsons founded Sweet Blackberry, a non-profit organization dedicated to sharing rarely told inspirational stories of African-American history.

Now Parsons is staging a Charitybuzz auction where the winner and a guest will spend time with four reunited members of the 'Fresh Prince' cast as a benefit for Sweet Blackberry. "It's a dining experience," Parsons tells PopEater, "with Alfonso Ribeiro [Carlton], Tatyana Ali [Ashley], James Avery [Uncle Phil] and myself, and a meet-and-greet with Will Smith. Will's gonna come by and hang for a minute and meet the winner."

Read our full conversation here, touching on everything from Will to Willow to a bizarre 'Transformers 3' rumor >>

This reunion is going to be huge for the auction winner.
I mean, I hope! [Laughs] It's so funny because for us it's such a different thing. For six years we kind of took for granted our wonderful relationship. You were used to seeing these people every day. It's a different experience for a fan of the show, but even for me, shoot, it makes me want to bid on it to get everybody together. It seems like just weddings is how we all end up getting together.

It's a pricey lunch, though. The bid is past $3,200 right now.
You know, Will is always worth it. I mean, we all are, but Will, I have to say, is great. He's such a generous, fun person, and I think he always makes it worth someone's while.

The Will Smith-ness comes across even in a brief meet-and-greet, huh?
He's not somebody who just turns it on or turns it off. Will's one of those people that walks in a room and all that charisma is just him. He can't really help it, it's just who he is. He's very positive, very bright.

Who'll be the biggest surprise for a 'Fresh Prince' fan to meet? I'm guessing you or Carlton. Er, Alfonso.
Definitely Alf and I, without a doubt. Oh yeah, Tweedledee and Tweedledum! [Laughs] We were the ones that really played knucklehead characters. I like to think we're not like that.

Where's the auction money going to go? How will it be used?
It's going to benefit Sweet Blackberry, which is an educational organization I started in order to bring little-known stories of African-American achievement to children. My mother headed the Black Resource Center in Los Angeles at her library, and she used to tell me stories, incredible information and stories from archives. One day she told me the story of Henry "Box" Brown, who was a slave who literally mailed himself, in a box, to freedom. It was a true story, and I couldn't believe I had never heard it. This story, on so many levels, has such magnitude.

So that got the wheels turning.
It was such an obvious story. A man inside of a box, pretending to be mail. I immediately thought, "That's a book." I wanted to a series of books for children that tell stories that we don't hear about.

And the Henry "Box" Brown story became your first Sweet Blackberry DVD.
It was the impetus for the whole thing, and it became the first one. In schools we seem to get a handful of stories we're told -- incredible stories of black people from history, but just a handful, kind of the same people that we always hear about. Yet black people helped build this country. I don't think we understand that. Obviously it's important for black children, but it's important for all of us to understand this together, to see our value and our neighbors' value and how we relate and how our culture is all of our culture and its history is all of our history. It should be all together for all of us to understand that.

How did you approach that goal?
I started it after my daughter was a couple years old. I wanted to pull more stories up that are relevant and teach lessons to children about overcoming obstacles. Obstacles are actually opportunities for greatness, which we learn from the stories. The first one, about Henry "Box" Brown, Alfre Woodard narrated. It's a lightly animated story. Then Queen Latifah narrated our second one, 'Garrett's Gift.'

See a Sweet Blackberry clip:

Sweet Blackberry Intro from karyn parsons on Vimeo.

Sounds like you stay busy. How often do you see your old co-stars? Was it easy pulling them together for this?
Well Tatyana is on the board of Sweet Blackberry. It doesn't mean I get to see her all the time; as far as I'm concerned I don't see any of them enough. James I get to see, he lives by me. Every time I see Will, I don't want to let him go. I'm like, "I don't know how long it's going to be 'til I get to see you!" He's wonderful, and he's the same Will. He's just so busy. He's a wanted man.

There were rumors about a year ago, talking up an actual 'Fresh Prince' reunion episode. Did you ever hear about that?
I hear that all the time.

And?
I doubt it. I don't know, maybe? It's possible. As long as Geoffrey doesn't have to wear his butler outfit while the rest of us wear gowns and tuxes. I have no objection whatsoever. I don't know if I could drag Hilary out, dust her off.

Tatyana Ali told me she gets such a warm response everywhere she goes, that she feels like fans really care about her because of her character. With Hilary, it's probably a different story...
Oh yeah, they wanna dropkick me. I had a friend say a guy jumped in at a bar and defended Tatyana. People feel like she's their little Ashley. But no, Hilary never had that. I was in Paris and some people come up to me and said, "You were that girl! On that show! We hated you!" Oh, thank you. Hilary definitely gets a different reception. That was part of the fun of playing her. I'm over it.

Showbiz isn't your main gig anymore, so why is IMDb saying you're in 'Transformers 3'?
[Laughs] No! I don't know what ... it's a lie! I don't know what happened or how. I had a family member on Facebook go, "Great news on 'Transformers 3,' Karyn, congratulations!" I was like, "What are you talking about?" Someone's trying to keep me current.

So you never heard about it?
I never heard about an audition. I have no idea. A couple years ago I saw that I was gonna do the biopic of Wendy Williams. Where that came from, I can't begin to imagine.

What would it take to get you back into acting?
I never say never. I have to say that now. I'm so consumed with a 7-year-old, a 3-year-old and Sweet Blackberry. My plate is so insanely full it's hard for me to think about it right now, but I've never stopped loving acting. We'll see what happens.

How do Will and Jada juggle family and showbiz so deftly?
Uh ... help? They're there and they're very present, but they can also structure their life because of their situation. And Willow and Jaden are doing their things too now, aren't they? They're incredibly smart, thoughtful parents.

What do you think of Willow, anyway?
She blew me away. Will played a little of 'Whip My Hair' for me before it was released -- it sounded like Rihanna or something. I was like, "Whoa, how old is she?" She's incredibly talented, and she's a really cool kid. She's been her own strong personality, a real strong flavor, since day one. You can see it when you watch the video -- it's all her own thing.

What do your kids think, knowing you know the Smiths?
We went to the 'Karate Kid' premiere, and my daughter was so excited. She didn't meet Jaden or Willow, which was probably fine because she would've been so overwhelmed. She would've passed out.

George Wythe High School Senior Awarded $10,000 Youth of the Year Scholarship

On February 10, 2010 at the 10th Annual Distinguished Leadership Awards Dinner at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, in front of an audience of 500 guests, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond proudly awarded Carl Tabb a $10,000 scholarship to further his education and pursue his dreams. Carl Tabb is a Richmond Public School student who will graduate from George Wythe High School in June.

The Youth of the Year Program is Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond’s premier youth recognition program for club members. This program has served as the primary vehicle for showcasing the exemplary achievements of club youth. The Youth of the Year Program is currently sponsored by various local businesses, corporations, and private donors and implemented in Boys and Girls clubs throughout the country This program recognizes participants’ superior leadership skills, academic achievement, obstacles overcome and outstanding service to their Boys & Girls Club and their community.

Each of the nine local Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond Units select candidates between the ages of 14-18 years of age to participate in their clubs local competition. The winners from each of the nine units then begin their journey toward becoming the organizations Youth of the Year by participating in the Youth of the Year Academy which prepare them for the competition.

Workshops on public speaking and interviewing skills are presented. Throughout this process which includes interviews, essays, presentations and of course, fun, they polish their skills, meet new friends and open their eyes to the endless possibilities that exist before them. Each Youth of the Year nominee brings with him/her various challenges as well as achievements. Each has made a difference in their club and/or community and each recognizes the difference the club has made in them. These nine candidates then participate in a formal interview with a panel of impartial judges. At that time judges evaluate the individuals on the criteria described above and select the overall Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Ricmond Youth of the Year winner who will represent the organization at the state level. Tabb won Southside Unit’s Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year winner and placed 2nd overall organization wide. The overall BGCMR Youth of the Year winner Beersheba, Open High School student and Central Unit member received a $15,000 Scholarship and the 3rd Place Zach from the Petersburg Unit winner received a $5,000 Scholarship.

As the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metrto Richmond’s Youth of the Year, Beersheba will serve as the agency’s ambassador during special events and meetings. Beershaeba also will represent BGCMR in the state competition. The winner of the state competition then has the opportunity to move forward to the regional, and possibly the national competition.

National Youth of the Year winners appear before Congressional committees to speak on teen issues, participate in Presidential Town Hall meetings, work as Congressional Pages, appear on television and news programs, and serve as ambassadors to other youth organizations. In addition to these prestigious duties, current and past National Youth of the Year winners continue to play active roles in their local Boys & Girls Clubs and communities.

In conclusion the Youth of the Year Program is the culmination of years of preparation, a time to feel proud and to receive well-deserved recognition. For all youth, families, friends, and supporters it is a memorable and rewarding experience that further demonstrates the magnificent role Boys & Girls Clubs play in developing America’s youth. I received the honor the Youth of The Year Award from BGCMR in 1996, placing in the top 3 in 1996’s VA State Youth of the Year Competition.

Congratulations again to Beersheba , Carl, Zach and the 6 other YOY Unit recipients for their accomplishments with in the Youth of the Year program.

It’s “Cheese Head Mania” Packers Win Super Bowl XLV

Congratulations to the Green Bay Packers, your Super Bowl XLV Champions. Tonight’s game was definitely worth watching. “Cheese Heads Stand!” Looking forward to the 2011 Season already.

(ESPN Texas) Hitting a few quick topics from Green Bay’s 31-25 victory in Super Bowl XLV:

What it means: The Green Bay Packers won their fourth Super Bowl championship in five tries. It was their 13th world championship, dating back to 1929. Much as they did during the regular season, the Packers overcame a series of rapid-fire injuries to hold off a Pittsburgh Steelers team that roared back from a 21-3 second-quarter deficit.

Rodgers Watch: Quarterback Aaron Rodgers didn’t have the game of his life, but he did throw for 304 yard and three touchdowns. Most important, he was at his best on the Packers’ final drive of the game. The Packers consumed 5 minutes and 19 seconds after the Steelers had pulled within 28-25, capping with a 23-yard field goal from Mason Crosby. Rodgers completed five of six passes on the drive, including a 31-yard strike to receiver Greg Jennings on third-and-10. I’m sure the Packers would have preferred a touchdown on that drive, but Rodgers more than did his part in a winning effort.

Injury Watch I: The Packers lost two of their top three defensive backs on consecutive plays near the end of the second quarter, creating a situation that seemed reminiscent of their undermanned performance against the Steelers in 2009. In that game, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw for 503 yards against a Packers defense that was forced to reach to the bottom of its depth chart. Sunday, nickel back Sam Shields suffered a shoulder injury and cornerback Charles Woodson injured his collarbone. Although Shields returned briefly in the second half, the Packers played a significant chunk of the game with Pat Lee at cornerback and Jarrett Bush as their nickel back. The Packers were on the ropes for a while thereafter, giving up touchdowns on successive drives to allow the Steelers to move from a 21-3 deficit to 21-17.

InjuryWatch II: The Packers opened the game with an obvious intent to spread out the Steelers’ defense with their four- and five-receiver set packages. It worked splendidly as the Packers took a 14-0 lead, but Donald Driver’s ankle injury in the second quarter reduced the Packers’ advantage considerably. Packers receivers unofficially dropped six passes as everyone but Jennings moved up a wrung on the depth chart. Jennings caught two touchdown passes and Jordy Nelson caught one among his nine overall catches. But No. 5 receiver Brett Swain struggled when used as the No. 4 receiver.

What’s next: An offseason of labor uncertainty for the entire NFL. Hope you enjoyed what you saw Sunday night. It’s not clear when we’ll see something like that again.

Cam'ron Ends Silence On Kanye West Beef, "The Reason I Took A Shot..."

Dipset leader Cam'ron has ended his silence on calling out Kanye West last summer over a "Runaway" instrumental and said the matter has since been resolved.

According to Killa, his issue with Ye stemmed over a favor not being met.

"The reason I took a shot at Kanye, he needed something done for his album [a couple of years ago, and] when he needed it, I sent it back to him in about an hour," Cam told MTV News during his appearance with Dipset on "RapFix Live" on Thursday. The Harlem MC was referring to the song "Gone" from West's 2007 LP, Late Registration. "I needed something for my record and he was in Honolulu; he has to do this, he has to do that," Cam recalled. "And I'm one of those people, I do a favor for a favor. When you need it, I got it back to you. When I needed something, you couldn't get back to me?" Eventually matters were settled with help from Don C., a Yeezy insider who has a longstanding relationship with Cam'ron. Now, with their differences mended, the Diplomats frontman suggested they could work together again soon -- possibly for the Harlem collective's reunion project. (MTV)

In the fall, Cam went after Ye on his "Runaway" freestyle and accused him of dissing Roc-A-Fella co-founder Dame Dash.

Jim Jones and Cam'ron leaked a new song today (September 15) dissing Kanye West over the instrumental to "Runaway," a song Ye premiered this past Sunday at the MTV Video Music Awards. On the track Cam spits, "Kanye you a sucka n*gga/Dissed Dame [Dash], so my attitude is f*ck the n*gga/Stuck to Jigga. How you gon' live with that? Took the beat, now come get it back." (XXL Mag)

West later came forward and downplayed having any ill will toward Cam.

"You don't understand how much I love Dipset," West told radio personality Funkmaster Flex. "Dipset are so necessary. It's like when Jay-Z did 'Death of Auto-Tune.' That was a necessary moment. It's people who completely don't agree anything that I'm doing. But I agree with it so I'm gonna keep doing it. What makes that such a great hip-hop moment is that you have to be expressive. What do you feel? Don't think about the political, whether or not I can do a beat for you or what that would mean. Just express how you feel -- people are not gonna agree with everything I do. I look back and look at stuff I do and don't agree with it. If I made a diss record of myself, I would kill me. I would be extremely good at it...I use to spit my verses at Baseline [Studios], and just to be able to spit a verse in front of Cam was such a big deal to me and just for him to appreciate any of my lines coming from where I came from." (Hot 97)

Both artists eventually collaborated together on their track "Christmas In Harlem."

Kanye West wishes you G.O.O.D. tidings on the finished version of his seasonal tune "Christmas in Harlem." On the epic affair, Yeezy Claus buries the hatchet with Dipset's Cam'ron and Jim Jones, roping in G.O.O.D. Music's Pusha T, Big Sean, and CyHi the Prynce. Teyana Taylor and Musiq Soulchild add some R&B spice to the wintery track, harmonizing with one another about spending the holidays with family. (Rap-Up)

The Fugees Are Not Meant To Be, Says Wyclef

Rapper Wyclef Jean may have finally put all Fugees reunion hopes out to pasture as he vents his frustrations with attempting to re-group with former collaborators Lauryn Hill and Pras.

Although he does not see a Fugees reunion taking place, Jean still holds the two estranged members in high regard.

"When it comes to Lauryn and Pras, it's my childhood, they always bring me to that place. Bono's U2 calls The Fugees the hip-hop version of the Beatles. It was the first band of hip-hop in our generation...At the end of the day Pras is my brother and Lauryn is my sister, despite what the media say. The Fugees are not meant to be. We're rock stars from a locked group. You're going to have egos and differences but at the end of the day I love them both very much." (Star Pulse)

Jean reportedly killed reunion talks two years ago.

Wyclef has expressed the unlikeliness of a reunion before. In a 2009 interview with Angela Yee's "The Morning After" show, saying a Fugees reunion is best left "a myth." The group's 1996 sophomore album, The Score, is considered one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever, and has sold over 18 million copies worldwide.
(Baller Status)

However, later in 2009, Jean expressed his desire to reunite with Hill.

"Let me play you a classic record," Clef told his crowd of fans. "This group still sold 22 million copies and the reason I'll never go broke, I'm still living on they publishing check. See. So right here, Wyclef passing number one -- and if Lauryn Hill is listening, get the group back together too!" (YouTube)

Jean previously explained how he hoped new music would inspire Hill and Pras to join forces.

"Yeah. And it's actually a good question, because people within hip-hop don't really care about groups like that, you know what I mean?," Jean said in an interview with DJ Booth. "Once you're done in hip-hop, you're done. But somehow the Fugees is the soundtrack to everyone's house. What I'm hoping is that this group really gets inspired by the new movement that I'm on right now, with the whole Warriors movement, the new music that I've got comin' out, the movement with the youth, and I'm hoping they'll get inspired and be like, 'Yo, let's find Clef and let's get this thing crackin'.' And it would be an honor to go in and make it a super album."

On Aaliyah's 32nd birthday, a celebration of 'Try Again'

On this day in 1979, Aaliyah Dana Haughton was born. Known simply as Aaliyah, the so-called "Princess of R&B" would have been 32 years old today. She died along with eight other people in 2001 when the plane she was on crashed in the Bahamas, but not before helping define a sound. Despite her youth, in the years leading up to her tragic death Aaliyah changed the face of R&B, first with R. Kelly, who signed her, and then, more prominently, with producer Timbaland and rapper Missy Elliott, who helped her craft some of the most innovative hits of the decade.

It's one of those latter collaborations, "Try Again," that's embedded above. The song, a jerky, catchy, electro-R&B jam, was released in 2000, and went to No. 1 on the Billboard singles chart. And why wouldn't it? Check the video above. The song is instantly sticky, with its robo-bluster tone, squirrelly synth lines, off-kilter rhythm and Aaliyah's delicate voice offering the advice, "If at first you don't succeed, pick yourself up and try again." Her voice was never huge, but it had a kind of urgency all its own.

The video features Jet Li -- who starred with Aaliyah in the movie "Romeo Must Die," for which the song was recorded -- and the Princess dancing in a hall of mirrors. Aaliyah moves gracefully and with such natural ease, her arms floating along with the synthesizer lines, her legs stepping to the Roland 303 beat. Timbaland shows up to mumble 16 bars, as was his wont on nearly all of his productions of that time, and combined, the yin and yang of A and Timba creates magic. The song cemented Timbaland's spot as the producer of the moment when it landed at No. 1, and he went on to rule hip hop and R&B over the next half decade.

And, heck, because, well, why not, here's another Aaliyah-associated early classic from her, Timbaland, Missy Elliott and Magoo. It's called "Up Jumps Da Boogie, and is an underappreciated hip hop/R&B gem.

Happy Birthday "Baby Girl!"....Aaliyah, forever our Angel

Uncle Luke Considers Freaking M.I.A. As Mayor

Rap veteran Uncle Luke has announced his intention to put on for his city by possibly running for the mayor of Miami this spring.

According to a Miami New Times column he penned this week, Luke is serious about making positive changes by running for office.

“If Carlos Alvarez gets recalled, I will seriously think about running for Miami-Dade County mayor,” . “And should I win, I would make everyday I am in office a reality show. Everyday, Miami-Dade residents will have transparency in the mayor’s office…I’ve been a successful businessman in this community for years. I was born and raised in Miami-Dade. No one can question the love I have for my home county.” (Miami New Times)

The hip-hop legend also stressed the importance of reforming school.

“I have a plan for the schools. We need to have three types of them: one for kids who plan to attend college, one for those who don’t, and a third for the knuckleheads. A big reason F-schools exist is that you have a lot of knuckleheads bringing good students down. These are realistic goals. If our leaders don’t see fit to implement them, then I’ll be forced to run for mayor myself.” (Miami New Times)

The run for mayor would take place if Miami’s current mayor is removed.

The recall for Mayor Alvarez has been set for March 15. There have been efforts to recall Alvarez since December 2009, but there were initially not enough signatures necessary. The possibilities of a recall gained steam again this past September when county commissioners passed a budget that raised property taxes and increased the salaries of county employees. (XXL Mag)

Renowned in the South, he is also recognized for his achievements with rap group 2 Live Crew.

Campbell formed the Miami-based quartet in 1987 and they were the centerpiece of a national campaign against allegedly obscene lyrics. He was embroiled in a volatile trial pitting him against then-Florida attorney general Jack Thompson. Campbell later became a solo artist, issuing his own discs as Luke Featuring 2 Live Crew. Nicki Minaj On Rihanna's Advances, "When She's Not Grabbing My A** She's A Sweet Girl"

Young Money's Nicki Minaj recently discussed her relationship with R&B star Rihanna just weeks after causing an uproar after the singer inappropriately touched her hind parts on live television.

In addition to speaking on Rihanna, Minaj also talked about artists she favors outside of the urban genre.

"We're shooting the video with Rihanna for 'Fly' this weekend," Minaj said in an interview last Friday. "We're going to save the world in more ways than one with the video and that's all I can say about that... I love Ri-Ri! I mean, when she's not grabbing my a** [at the American Music Awards] she's a sweet girl...I like everyone. I don't listen to music based on genre. Like, I'll hear a song and then I'll live for that song for like months and I'll be like, 'Who the h*ll is that?' I listen to Taylor Swift. I like Coldplay. I listen to gospel a lot. I listen to anything that's just beautiful music." (E! Online)

Last year, Minaj opened up about her relationship with Rihanna.

"She didn't wind up using the things that I sent for that [Rated R] album at that time, but we wound up having a mutual respect for each other. So I knew eventually something would happen. And so now when she sees me she fondles me and stuff like that. She fondled me at the MTV Video Music Awards and the American Music Awards. I love her...Right now she's the girl that everybody loves. I'm so proud to have worked with her. Let's just say she's the best fondler ever." (RWD Magazine)

Over the weekend, Rihanna tweeted a photo she took while posing next to Minaj.

"http://twitpic.com/3o9l94 - Me and Nikki in our new crib, lol! Gettin busy on set of FLY!!! Its so hard to keep my hands off!," Rihanna tweeted Saturday (January 8).

"#RihannaNavy #TeamMinaj #Rinaj @NICKIMINAJ b*tch don't u hear me askin what my OWN name is??? Lol! My bad, I'll make it up to u *wink*" (Rihanna's Twitter)

Minaj added on to the hype by confirming a move-in with Rihanna.

"@rihanna lol. If we're gonna liv 2gthr and hook up u gotta learn how 2 spell my name! Lmaooooooo. ---- Gossip Gossip ni#@a just stop it! :p" (Nicki Minaj's Twitter)

Soulja Boy Still Pissy Over Grammy Loss To Kanye West, "[I] Should Have Got That"

Southern rapper Soulja Boy Tell Em has revealed harbored frustrations over losing a 2008 Grammy award to Kanye West.

According to Soulja Boy, he deserved to win a Grammy for his 2007 hit, "Crank Dat".

The rapper's breakthrough song, "Crank Dat (Soulja Boy)", was up for the best rap song Grammy in 2008, but lost to West's party anthem, the T-Pain-assisted "Good Life". Soulja Boy says initially he "wasn't really thinking about it" and was optimistic that he would "get it next year." Now, the 20-year-old says while recording his recently released third album, "The DeAndre Way," he felt like "he should have got that Grammy." (Associated Press)

While West has received 14 Grammy nods throughout his career, Soulja Boy has only garnered a single nomination.

Thinking optimistically, Soulja recorded the song, "Grammy" on his latest release, The Deandre Way, in a plea to win something the next time he's eligible. (Since his disc came out on November 30, 2010, he missed the September 30 cut off date for this year's ceremony). SB has not been nominated for the prestigious award since his debut in 2008. (XXL Mag)

Soulja Boy's new album, The DeAndre Way, debuted on the sales chart during its opening week last year.

Rapper Soulja Boy Tell Em's The DeAndre Way also debuted on the chart at No. 90. With seven days down, the rapper's new album has sold 13,400 copies. (SOHH Sales Wrap)

Despite the negative perception of selling just over 13,000 records in his opening week, Slaughterhouse's Joe Budden spoke up for Soulja Boy.

"When he has done so much more than that," Budden asked in an open debate regarding Soulja Boy's 13,400 first-week sales. "Soulja Boy is getting his money from other areas -- A recession has something to do with it because every one of these n*ggas drop 70 percent the very next week. I don't think [sales] are any reflection of the music at all. Sales have absolutely nothing to do with music. He's 20-years-old on the Forbes list. What are you talking about right now? Clearly he's not making his money [from album sales]. He's getting his money from elsewhere. But it all starts from the music. I'm lost as to why we're standing around saying, 'D*mn, Soulja Boy sold 13,000 copies.' Soulja Boy is standing somewhere saying, 'Word.' There's nothing to say when you're counting money. Soulja Boy's not mad. His label's not mad. Nobody that has anything to do with Soulja Boy is mad. Trust me. Trust me, nobody involved with Soulja Boy, in his camp, is mad. Nobody. Soulja Boy is a 20 year-old millionaire. Let's really start putting things into perspective here. I can't imagine what that's like." (JumpOff TV)

T.I.'s Wife Gets Off Clean As A Whistle

Incarcerated rapper T.I.'s wife, Tiny Cottle, will reportedly avoid punishment for drug possession charges dating back to a summer 2010 arrest in Los Angeles.
clear pixel

Charges against Tiny were nixed Thursday (January 6) afternoon.

T.I.'s wife Tameka "Tiny" Cottle just scored a major victory -- the drug possession case against her has been dismissed ... TMZ has learned. The L.A. County District Attorney's office tells TMZ the case was dropped because Tiny completed 24 sessions of a certified drug diversion program in Georgia. T.I. and Tameka were pulled over and arrested on Sunset Boulevard back in September. They werebooked for possession of a controlled substance. The D.A. dropped the case against T.I. since he was already headed back to prison ... the arrest alone was enough to violate his federal probation. (TMZ)

Tiny and T.I. were initially arrested in Los Angeles last September.

After getting arrested for possession of what was confirmed to be ecstasy pills earlier today, the married couple was taken to the police station to have these sad-looking pics snapped. The newlyweds, who were pulled over in their Maybach on Wednesday night (Sept. 1) after making an illegal U-turn in West Hollywood, were cuffed after police detected the smell of marijuana from the car. Cops claimed that the arrest was made on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, which sources told TMZwere ecstasy pills. (Rap-Up)

Following the arrest, the couple tested positive for drugs in their body.

Pills found in the car of rapper/actor T.I. and his wife Tameka Cottle have tested positive as a type of Ecstasy, RadarOnline.com has learned, and the case has now been turned over to the District Attorney's office which now must decide what, if any charges will be filed against the couple. As RadarOnline.com previously reported, T.I., who's real name is Clifford Harris, Jr. was arrested Wednesday night, along with his wife, in West Hollywood, California. (Radar Online)

Ex-United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young previously questioned the real reasoning behind the couple being pulled over in Los Angeles last summer.

"I assume that you're innocent until you're proven guilty," Young told the Associated Press in a telephone interview. "If he was driving and smoking marijuana, that is absolutely stupid. But why was he pulled over in the first place? Because he had a Maybach? Because he was black? Because they know who he is and resent his success?" (CBS News)

Although Tiny is hook the off, T.I. is currently serving an 11-month jail sentence for violating probation.
